There are no acceptable excuses for not providing your workers with a safe working environment. High-level mezzanine floors, loading docks, hoist openings and doorways used for loading pallets etc. MUST have adequate and fool-proof fall protection at all times. Chains, swing gates, lift-out gates, sliding gates and push gates just don't cut it! They can be left open and are accidents waiting to happen. Even a safety harness doesn't work as people may forget to wear it.
Some excuses often cited for not fitting an all-round protection safety loading system include:
* Not enough headroom
* The area is too cramped
* People need to walk through the area
* Platform or walkway is too narrow
* The load is very wide
* The load is very deep.
* The load is very tall
* Loading is through a fire door
* Loading is through inward opening doors
* Loading is through a roller shutter
* Loading is through a sliding door
* Loading is by overhead hoist
* Pallets are unloaded by vacuum crane
* Combinations of the above
