Teagle hoist opening

The Teagle platform installation was used in old multi-story warehouses for lifting goods to upper floors. The opening usually had an outer flap or fold-down platform supported by chains with either a runway beam or swing jib with a hoist to initially raise the load above the platform. Then the flap is lowered to land the load onto a horizontal platform for handling. Obviously, with the advance in health and safety, this design had to be replaced as it offered no effective fall protection.

Nowadays, these Teagle openings have been replaced by high-level doors or plant room openings with sliding or inward-opening doors with a cantilever runway with a hoist or swing jib extending through the doorway so that the load can be handled inside the building. However, this still left an unprotected opening which must be secured. Traditionally the opening had a barrier chain which had to be removed for loading, leaving an unprotected opening. Later a safety harness was issued to protect personnel whilst loading. Unfortunately, this requires the wearer to remember to put it on.

Modern Doorway Safety

To remedy this unsafe situation, Mezzbarriers pallet gate systems developed a scissor action safety gate system with an open top, creating a secure landing area, open or closed. The Hi-Gate safety gate CLICK HERE TO VIEW can be loaded by hoist or forklift and conforms with ISO 14122-3:2016 for pallet gates. Their Sigma multi-purpose safety gate model CLICK HERE TO VIEW may be utilised for low-headroom applications.

In addition to safety gates, DLHonline can provide a complete solution with MODERN TRACK SYSTEMS or SWING JIBS custom-designed to suit your high-level doorway
