Pallet Gate for Order Picking Racking System

Client: Manufacturer racking Systems. 

Requirement: Pallet Gates for high-level order picking racks with suspended floors for large internet distribution warehouse . 

Problems: 

• Narrow aisles make the use of a standard up and over gates a collision hazard to forklift traffic
   
• Low height racking with high load pallets.
   
• Pallet gates being used by all picking personnel

Racking Layout

• Client layout shows a section of the multi-level order picking floors.
    
• The system is arranged in a comb shaped layout.
   
• The comb teeth racks, shown, are arranged in pairs with interlinking floors and are visualized with a version of our Omega model space saving vertical track gates. 
   
• The opening and closing of the gates do not interfere with forklift traffic when operated. 
   
• This model is also very easy to operate, having a balanced gate system which negates operator fatigue.

 

 

Solution:

1. After trials, it was decided that the best solution was to design a special built-in pallet gate. Photo (left) shows an alternative NEW concept vertical gate system for racking applications.
2. Double flanged rollers with bearings. These rollers are specially designed to run on the profile of the rack uprights.
3. When the operator lowers the inner gate it raises the edge gate
4. This innovative solution cuts cost and allows for easy set up on site. 
5. The gates are connected by steel wire ropes over precision pulleys. These are mounted at top of racking uprights below next level (See photo right).
6. Safety wires are fitted between gates for additional security. 
7. Gates can have two or three horizontal bars depending on rack height clearance available for pallet height. Mesh infill and kick plates are optional extras.
8. Gates a very easy to operate and provide all personnel with fool-proof fall protection and protect from the danger of collision with moving loads.
9.  Now more often superseded by the Sigma Model which is a more compact design.
